Course Name: Level 3: ADVANCED OFF-ROAD RIDER

Course Objectives:

  • Build on foundational off-road riding skills to navigate more challenging terrain and obstacles.

  • Develop techniques to manage deep river crossings, large boulder fields, deep sand, and mud.

  • Enhance problem-solving and decision-making in complex and hazardous environments.

Course Structure

Day 1: Advanced Riding Fundamentals

Morning (Classroom Learning - 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM)

  • Preparation for Advanced Riding

    • Preparing for the ride - food, hydration and route planning

    • Understanding advanced terrain types and how to adapt techniques.

    • Safety protocols for extreme off-road conditions.

  • Motorcycle Setup for Advanced Terrain

    • Tire selection and adjustments for sand, mud, and rocks.

    • Pre-ride inspection and maintenance for extreme conditions.

Afternoon (Hands-On Training - 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM)

  • Advanced Throttle and Clutch Techniques

    • Precision throttle control for uneven surfaces.

    • Advanced clutch modulation for low-speed maneuvers.

    • Elephant turn

    • Pivot Turn

  • Obstacle Techniques: Rocks and Logs

    • Techniques for clearing large 2-4ft rock, log, etc. obstacles.

    • Balance and momentum management.

Day 2: Deep Sand and Mud Navigation

Morning (Hands-On Training - 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM)

  • Deep Sand Riding

    • Body position for maintaining stability.

    • Managing momentum and preventing loss of traction

    • Can ride & do an emergency brake in a square with 120ft sides and 6ft corners in deep rutted sand

  • Mud Navigation

    • Techniques to increase wheel spin to maintain momentum & traction

    • Using balance and line selection to maintain progress, through turns and deep ruts

    • Pre-empting mud of hidden obstacles

    • Recovering moto from mud

Afternoon (Practical Application - 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM)

  • Combined Terrain Riding

    • Simulated tracks with sand, mud, and boulders.

    • Developing endurance and consistency over long distances.

Day 3: Hazardous Environment Navigation

Morning (Classroom and Hands-On Training - 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM)

  • River Crossings

    • Assessing depth, current, and safe entry/exit points.

    • Assessing direction of travel, angle of approach and exit.

    • Recovering drowned bikes

  • Steep Inclines and Descents

    • Advanced braking and throttle balance for steep terrain.

    • Techniques for safely managing loose surfaces.

    • Bike balance & recovery on steep inclines

    • Safely managing loose/twisty surfaces

Afternoon (Hands-On Training - 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM)

  • Boulder Fields and Technical Riding

    • How to maintain traction using body positioning

    • Line selection for large rock fields.

    • Assessing entry & exit points

Day 4: Simulation and Team Riding

Morning (Hands-On Training - 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM)

  • Extreme Terrain Scenarios

    • Recovery techniques for bikes stuck in sand or mud or steep terrain.

    • Recovery techniques for bikes that break down in sand, mud, rocky or steep terrain.

    • Defining when to stop as a team to problem-solve unexpected challenges.

Afternoon (Practical Application - 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM)

  • Team Ride: Advanced Obstacle Course

    • Full-day simulation of advanced off-road challenges.

    • Incorporating all learned skills in a realistic expedition scenario.

Leadership Development Skills

  • Team Leadership in Hazardous Conditions

    • Communication strategies for coordinating in extreme environments.

    • Encouraging team members and managing group dynamics during stressful situations.

  • Decision-Making Under Pressure

    • Identifying risks and making safe, efficient choices.

    • Reflecting on personal performance and identifying areas for growth.

Certification Test

Format: Practical Examination (4 Hours)

  • Riders will navigate a challenging course featuring all terrain types: deep sand, mud, boulder fields, steep inclines, and river crossings.

  • Evaluated on control, technique, problem-solving, and teamwork.

Course Outcomes

  • Riders will confidently handle extreme off-road conditions and overcome advanced obstacles.

  • Improved endurance, decision-making, and leadership in hazardous environments.

  • Certification as an Advanced Off-Road Rider, qualifying them for Level 4 Adventure Certifications.

Certification Earned

Title: CAMEL ADVANCED OFF-ROAD RIDER Prerequisite: Completion of Level 2 - CAMEL OFF-ROAD RIDER Validity: Certification remains valid for two years before requiring recertification or progression to Level 4.
